The Secret of RICE: Future Footwear

Behind the scenesSustainability
In the world of fashion, trends come and go, but one thing that remains constant is the need for sustainability. At The Rice Society, we've taken this need to heart, and in our quest for eco-conscious footwear, we found an unlikely ally in rice.

A Grainy Connection
Our story begins near Elche, Spain, in a paella rice plantation  just a stone's throw away from our production site. But hold on, we're not interested in the grains hat end up in your paella. Instead, our focus is on rice chaff - the outer husk of the rice grain often overlooked during milling. This unconventional choice aims to reduce waste, support local farmers, and bolster the local value chain.

Why Rice, You Ask?
Rice is more than a staple food for many cultures around the world, but it also has unique properties that make it an ideal material. The Rice chaff is lightweight, breathable, and naturally moisture-wicking. This blend of attributes creates the ultimate combination for crafting footwear that's both comfortable and eco-friendly. The Rice Society's decision to incorporate rice into our sneakers isn't a fashion statement. It's a conscious effort to minimize our carbon footprint, all while promoting local sourcing and supporting the environment and local communities. It's all about that ripple effect; one small change in material choice, one giant leap towards sustainability.
